Since I “made-up” this room, it is a representation of my fashion. I am what you’d call Eclectic-Glamorous, I love glamor but appreciate various styles as well.
Storage option – Apart from the large working bench space, your oak computer desk should offer you extra storage options. These include slide out and open drawers and shelves. Most importantly, it must feature a pull out keyboard and mouse shelf. Otherwise, the desk should feature a big workbench so that you can place the keyboard and mouse on it as well. However, a slide out style is good because it ensures the protection of these parts. Other storage features include drawers to keep all your accessories for computers and for writing.
Interior Designers use something called a sample board. It is a board that they keep their samples for a room they are designing. The large paint manufactures have already done this for you. Olympic paints have wonderful brochures with combinations of colors that work well together. They have 6-7 color samples and pictures to show the combinations together in a room. It is the next best thing to an interior Designer looking over your shoulder. I highly recommend you use these they are very well designed and the colors all complement each other.
The task this week is a difficult one. Each team had to redesign an apartment in New york as a place for executives to stay in while doing business in the city. Organizational skills and Interior Design tool experience will be key this week. Holly and Sharon square off as project managers, so two strong personalities are going head to head.
Try to develop a theme on each and every floor of the house. After you develop this theme, try to match the colors and furniture to the type of theme that you choose. For example, you may want to instill a tropical theme in the first floor of your home to increase the vibrancy.
If you are looking to fill up your walls with some artwork, you can place a few small pieces together in a group. You need to make sure that they are not too terribly close together and that the spacing is correct. A good rule of thumb is about 2 to 3 inches between frames depending on the space that you have.
When selecting paint don’t forget to go green. Make sure you look for low VOC paint. VOC’s are the cause of that harsh “new paint” smell that many find offensive. The US Green Building Council recommends no more than 50 VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds). VOC’s are emitted as gases from certain liquids such as some paints. These gases include a variety of chemicals, some of which may have short and long-term adverse health effects.
When looking for assistance with your home improvement projects, look for friends that have already been through their own projects, so that they can offer help and support if necessary. Don’t count on one person. This is true in this particular case as well.
